OLED Technology & LG curved Design
OLED, or Organic Light Emitting Diodes, is a promising development in display technology. OLEDs are made by placing thin films of organic (carbon based) materials between two conductors. When electrical current is applied, a bright light is emitted. Unlike LCDs, the OLED materials emit light and do not require a backlight. Each pixel is a small light-emitting diode in itself.
The advantages of OLED over other display technologies include high peak brightness together with perfect blacks, infinite contrast ratios, very wide viewing angles, and very fast response times without visible motion blur. OLED also consumes less power and does not contain any toxic materials.
LG combined this futuristic display technology with curved display to give us the world’s first Curved OLED TV. The gently curved screen complements the contour of your eyes to ensure equal distance from all parts of the screen to the eyes. No other television has such an ergonomical design that is clearly designed for human comfort.
The curved shape offers truly immersive viewing to not just the person in front of the center of the screen, but also to others who are not sitting in the sweet spot. Unlike previous displays that experienced contrast loss from the side, it shows incredibly consistent contrast from any angle. Also, the color refiner ensures there are no color distortions either.
The concave shape also cuts down on reflections from ambient light. This enhances the excellent dark image content and perfect blacks as otherwise they would be spoiled by the surrounding light being reflected off the screen.

Besides the incredible display, every aspect of the LG Curved OLED TV is a design innovation. The R&D team at LG came up with the idea of the transparent Crystal Stand that seamlessly complements the design. It also creates the illusion of a floating screen to ensure that nothing gets in the way of the completely immersive viewing experience. The Clear Speakers offer refined sound even at higher frequencies to perfectly complement the clear picture quality only an OLED TV can offer.
The simple structure of the OLED TV also allows for great improvements in the shape and form. The result: paper-thin and light TV without any unnecessary components marring the view. The sleek design is perfectly complemented by the perfect finish. The rear of the TV is seamlessly covered in Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic. CFRP is a high-quality material used for aircrafts and super cars and is known for its strength and durability. It is lighter and thinner than aluminum, allowing for a quality finish that makes this product not just a marvel of technology by a prized décor piece as well.
With so many innovations in its kitty, it’s no wonder that the LG Curved OLED TV won the Red Dot Design Award—a true proof of its brilliant technology and absolute worth!
